New Ask.com maps have walking (biking) directions

maps.ask.com Maps, with most of the same technology from google maps (navteq), but now with walking directions. Which, works out to having directions without freeways, which works out to biking directions. I haven’t explored it much, but it looks nice. The interface is a bit easier to use and even more web 2.0-y than maps.google.com.

Bike Metro is still a good way to get bike map info too, but it only works in California.

Compiling kernels like it was 1999.

So yeah, that was my weekend… err actually I didn’t try going all the way to recompiling my kernel until last night. At which point I realized that the dyne:bolic config was a bit more contrived than I was willing to figure out at 1AM. So… yeah, I still haven’t gotten freebob working with my presonus firebox. And that is annoying me.

The funny thing is, last week I got 40 Linux machines up and running in a cluster setup, using Rocks. That was relatively simple compared to this, though.

Yeah, so I guess I’m just as geeky as ever… but somehow not very successful at my geeky endeavors at home.

Detour festival, etc.

Well… let’s see. This weekend, I saw Beck, Basement Jaxx, Peeping Tom and a bit of Queens of the Stone Age at the Detour festival. I had won tickets, so I didn’t really feel like getting there on time… I feel like it was cool, but I wish I’d seen more (like Red Kross and Blackalicious)… But then again, I didn’t really want to just bake out in the sun all day. It was a fun time, not something I would pay for, but totally awesome for free. I won the tickets from the laist (link to a review by me).

Hmm… yeah, I didn’t bring my camera… and also… my ipod fell out of my pocket to be lost forever. Whoops, that’s dumb, but you know it just follows from the chaotic world in which we live that the material goods we possess will all eventually depart (or fail).

So I guess the upside is that I didn’t bring my camera and lose it too. I’m generally not a loser of things, so perhaps it was deftly pick-pocketed, but I prefer to think it was dropped and picked up by someone who now has a scratched up ipod nano with my random songs on it. I hope they like Elastica, Sonic Youth, breakcore (in general), New Order, and some other randomness. woohah.

Let’s see… yeah… just trying to get my finances in order at the moment. My hospital session this summer is still producing bills. That sucks.

Why would I want my finances in order? In order to buy more stuff (to eventually lose):

Somehow writing down just those three things as “wanted to buy” makes me feel less like wanting to buy them, which is good. I should probably focus on other ways to spend my money like… oil change, food, bills… Yeah, that’d be smart.

Harmony Stratotone Eastwood reissue!

Seems like only last month I was talking about seeing Marc Ribot play a Harmony Stratotone with Ceramic Dog. And now, the folks at Eastwood Guitars are putting out a reissue!

It looks completely awesome. They put Airline on the headstock, but the little atom logo is the same and … wow… it looks awesome doesn’t it? Here is a link to some vintage stratotones.
