Back from NH.

Short stochastic statement. Safari Sam’s last night… an example of what myspace looks like in the flesh basically. It was a great new venue, so it still had a sceney veneer of people who go to the newest thing. Saw johnossi since B.A. (and E.H.) were visiting and B knew Ossi, the drummer. Last minute …And you will know us by the trail of dead was added to the bill. I was pretty sure they had a killer first album, but then I think they got signed and spent far too long in the studio on the 2nd (or whatever) release and it was bad. I got it at a stoop sale for $2 and left it at my old work when I quit. It made me feel sad.

Johnossi was good. Also saw the lead singer of Darker My Love and he said their drummer was recovered from his bike vs. car accident and ready for their July residency.

And that’s the scenester market report brought to you by PRI public rich international.

A day late and a day early

Got back into LA a day late and it turns out I leave LA a day earlier than I thought for a conference New Hampshire. So I got one night in LA. What did I do? Went out for an all you can eat Korean BBQ. I think I one the de facto eating contest that ensued. With the in table BBQ blazing and 5 bottles of Hite meat sweats were going on for everyone.

Halfway back from Jamestown

So… went out to Jamestown for a week of relaxation, BBQs, music, and seeing old friends. Missed seeing some of my friends, but did get to see most of my main cats… including a surprise run by Taylor up to Jamestown. My first night, I spent in Buffalo, which was great. Steve and Erinn were super nice and this guy Charlie had a sweet Bianchi Pista that he let me ride. It was neato. Buffalo is bike central. Also saw Sean and Steve-O, which was cool, played some foosball, etc.

Then I could go into what happened in Jamestown, but it was rather intense and relaxing all at the same time. Let’s just put it this way, that people know how to have a good time. The Stock Market Crash played mojo’s with the Audience. That was pretty fantastic. Marc broke his hand prior to the show which actually made it better. Hand splints look cool, I guess… didn’t Michael Jackson have one for a while..?

Then today, rolled up to Buffalo, expecting to have a flight back to LA and land there tonight. But instead, I’m in Minneapolis / St. Paul… delayed flight out of Buffalo. So yeah, the mall of america closes at 9. Maybe 9:30. That totally weakens the mall of america concept for me. I’m thinking it needs to stay open to 11 at least, with a special segment that stays open until 2AM. Am I wrong?

So yeah… My friends suggested that I trash the room on NWA, but they took my credit card when I came in, so instead I’m watching foodtv instead of pay per view and generally keeping the room in shape. Managed to get a little bit of work done, which isn’t bad considering one of my friend’s in Jamestown is a brewer for a living and another a bartender. Gulp.

Mini Chaos

Ok… so my bike broke a spoke today on my way home. That is not a major problem, since it was the rear tire, I can think of two options… fixed gear or internal gear setup. The internal gear from Shimano looks kind of neat. Also got a mystery txt message on Saturday only to realize who it was today and feel dumb. My bad.

3:15 AM post ride-ARC ride

Oh my… like… 30 miles ridden from 8:45pm to now. In spite of getting my bike tuned up prior to the ride… I neglected to replace the chain with one that fits (this is on my beater raleigh record bike) so I managed to get it into this nearly physically impossible state where the back derailer is basically horizontal and the chain is stuck into a gear.
This happened in the San Gabriel Santa Monica [oops] Mountains at about the same elevation as the hollywood sign. I was hobbled and ended up walking the bike for a while… eventually at a paused point (even though I was walking my bike, I wasn’t the last person by a longshot.) my new best friend offered me his socket wrench, necessary to loosen the back tire and slide it forward in the horizontal drop outs enough to loosen the chain…
Anyone I know with a bike is hopefully laughing at the fact that I ride a bike with a chain that is simply too short. My only option is to never use the big front sprocket… which is kind of a bummer on downhills… so… other (actually correct) option new chain…
