E’s Saab, from happier times.

Notice how it’s not all smashed to bits in this photo.

Friend nearly dies in car crash (but thankfully doesn’t)!

Check out this wicked car crash that my man Ethan was in. That’s wild. I’m so glad I only ride my bike for my commuting. Unless I’m going to bars… stupid, stupid LA.
Did he write that the crash induced labor in the pregnant driver of the other car!? Yes, he did! Intense.

So yeah, that’s insane, but he survived! Everyone did. I’ll be sure to light a chalice for him tonight.

Disguised as a Russian cadet.

I have to give some thanks to the kids over at the Cheby Manor for hooking me up with some Decemberists music over Xmax break. It’s tasty, yet, like candy, it seems like their penchant for big dollar words might wear off. Also, somehow the Jamestown NY music scene is actually taking off, such that cool bands are coming through much more often. Breaking Laces for example just came through Mojo’s.

Hmm… What else… I have now ordered a kit for a distortion (overdrive? the Tweak-O) pedal. Props to mpdb for planting the seeds of soldering stuff for fun. On that same note, I am fixing my vestax mixer (purchased from CowboyNeal at the beginning of the dot-com era) which I broke in a daze by pluggin’ in the wrong AC adapter. I think it just needs a new capacitor right now, I replaced the main blown diode and at least the meters come on now.

This is meaningless info, but heck now you know.

Guitar Rock!

So, yeah, lots of news I’ve read recently. Mostly in the ‘meh’ category. Apple builds giant box right south of central park. That’s like the ideal meh concept. I was thinking today that the only OS worse than OS X is windows, and the only OS worse than windows is Linux (pick a distro), and the only OS worse than Linux is OS X. Ponder that. And the only way other oses can get in on the game is to just squeeze into the escher-ring.

I’ve written nearly 10 songs in the past couple of months. They are all terrible, but fun to play. Luckilly I have access to a recording studio and have been jamming out with some friends who just happen to be highly skilled musicians.

Also… and finally… I ordered this guitar sight unseen and unplayed, uncaressed:
The Eastwood Ichiban

I grew up with my dad telling me about the Fender Esquire and a Gibson L5 he had back in the day… (50s) those guitars are worth more than my college debt on eBay these days… he probably traded them for better playing guitars… :) Anyhoo, I decided to completely buck the trend of Fender and Gibson worship which afflicts so much of the contemporary guitar world and rock out to the first original design from a dude in Canada and his Chinese guitar making cohorts. Mondo capitalizm. This is two posts in a row that mention China in a favorable light. …

With that said, let’s me just get this straight: China release your prisoners of conscience. U.S. you too.

(Edit)

Ok, it was made in Korea. No offense to Chinese luthiers, but Korean guitar manufacturers RULE! This guitar is my new baby. Pix soon.
